TITUS announces support for SharePoint 2010 in latest release of Metadata Security™ for SharePoint

Ottawa, ON —July 7, 2010TITUS, a leading provider of security and compliance solutions for email and documents, today released a new version of TITUS Metadata Security for SharePoint which offers support for Microsoft SharePoint 2010.

TITUS Metadata Security for SharePoint offers organizations an additional layer of security for SharePoint information. The solution enables administrators to protect any document type or item, and restrict access in SharePoint based on metadata properties, or SharePoint content types. Metadata Security for SharePoint automates the process of creating item level security permissions for sensitive information.

“Since the first release of Metadata Security for SharePoint just over a year ago, we have seen a great deal of momentum behind this product. There were many organizations out there looking for an easier solution for protecting their documents in SharePoint,” said Charlie Pulfer, VP Product Management with Titus. “With this release, we can now offer our customers this product for use with Microsoft SharePoint 2010.”

TITUS Metadata Security for SharePoint offers a number of key benefits, including:

  • Automatically applying security permissions based on the document’s metadata properties or content type, making per-document security much easier
  • Support for metadata security for both document libraries and lists
  • Allows permissions to be assigned to users or groups based on their Active Directory properties.
  • Provides the ability to read user and group names from columns and populate them in item permissions, making it much easier to manage permissions for specific people or groups

“Enterprise collaboration and productivity tools serve a very important business need – to provide a platform for people to share information internally and externally,” said Neil MacDonald, VP and Gartner Fellow with Gartner Research. “Many deployments, however, have been set up without fully considering the security implications, or, in other cases, only basic guidelines were followed leaving information unnecessarily exposed.”

“TITUS Metadata Security for SharePoint solution provides for more flexibility in designing efficient SharePoint sites,” said Mark E. Jennings, Controller of Technology Initiatives, B.F. Saul Company. “Prior to using the TITUS solution, our only option to manage security was to create additional document libraries. This limitation was making it more difficult to keep our sites simple and easy to use. With the TITUS solution, we are able to manage security at the metadata level without creating additional document libraries.”
