Classification for Office Key Features
Policy Verifier
Organizations can use classification labels to enforce policy before the document is even saved. This helps to prevent inadvertent disclosure of sensitive information, and gives the user instant policy feedback through pop-up warnings. These policy checks include:
- Email attachment checking: Checks the classification labels on attached documents to ensure that the attachment classification is equal to or less than the overall email classification. This prevents confidential documents from being accidentally sent out with lower email classifications, such as “Public”. (This feature requires the complementary TITUS products Message Classification or TITUS Aware.)
- No downgrade/no change: Prevents users from changing or downgrading classifications when they update a previously classified document. For example, a “Confidential” document cannot be downgraded to “Public”.
- Automatic document cleaning: Invokes the Microsoft Word Document Inspector and searches for hidden and sensitive data before storing or sending it to others. There is no need for the user to remember when or how to use Document Inspector; Classification for Microsoft Office takes care of this.
- Smart tag suggestions: Scans the document and advises when a word or phrase may be inappropriate for the current classification.
The Policy Verifier feature is completely configurable by the administrator who can:
- Apply policies to specific classification labels.
- Customize the text on pop-up warnings.
- Configure user permissions to override the policy warnings.

Prevent downgrades or changes to classifications
"The very nature of the information handled by our agency is sensitive. With the TITUS solution, we have confidence that information is being protectively marked and that it is staying within our organization when it travels via email."
