Metadata Assist

Visual markings are excellent tools for promoting proper information handling among users. However, much of the value in classification lies in machine-readable metadata. TITUS Message Classification generates classification metadata in MAPI properties and X-headers. These are standard metadata properties that can be read by other infrastructure solutions to prevent data spillage and ensure proper retention. Metadata can be used by third party infrastructure such as:

  • Network guards that can use classification metadata to determine what type of information can flow between classified and unclassified networks.
  • Network DLP and other perimeter security solutions that scan for metadata and can block messages of a certain classification, or encrypt the message before it leaves the organization.
  • Archiving solutions that can make storage and retention decisions based on the email's classification metadata.

"The very nature of the information handled by our agency is sensitive. With the TITUS solution, we have confidence that information is being protectively marked and that it is staying within our organization when it travels via email."
