TITUS Announces a New Version of Document Classification with Signed Trusted Labels™

Version 3.2 Digitally Signs Protective Markings for Added Assurance

Ottawa, ON —January 12, 2010TITUS a leading provider of security and compliance solutions for email and documents, today announced the release of TITUS Document Classification™ (TDC) 3.2. TDC 3.2 is a protective marking tool for Microsoft Office® to mark documents and paragraphs with visual labels that identify data sensitivity and attach security metadata to enforce policy and prevent data spillage. Version 3.2 includes Signed Trusted Labels™, allowing protective markings to be digitally signed to ensure trustworthiness and prevent tampering.

President Obama's recent Executive Order on Classified National Security Information prescribes a uniform system for classifying data to ensure secure information sharing. However users often lack the tools to easily apply consistent classification labels to documents. Additionally, in today’s military and government environments, tampering with classification labels can have serious implications for document security and information sharing. Military and government organizations need to ensure that protective markings are trustworthy. The most effective way to ensure trustworthiness is to apply digital signatures so that the protective markings are cryptographically bound to the document.

The TITUS Document Classification 3.2 solution applies classification markings to documents before saving or printing. Users require little or no knowledge of regulatory marking standards to apply the correct markings because they select from a preset list or are provided with default labels. These markings become visual labels on the document like headers, footers and watermarks to help increase user awareness to the sensitivity of data. The solution easily integrates into government and defense environments to help automate data classification and enhance existing security solutions with metadata to prevent data spillage.

"Most government agencies have classification standards but lack the ability to enforce those markings on documents,” said Charlie Pulfer, Vice President, Marketing and Product Management, Titus. Our solution helps automate data classification and guides users to apply protective markings to documents or paragraphs for secure information sharing. Signed Trusted Labels means that users and backend systems can rely on these document markings in the most sensitive environments."

System Requirements
Designed for Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), the software is client-based and requires no server. TITUS Document Classification 3.2 now supports Windows 7, in addition to Windows XP and Windows Vista. Signed Trusted Labels is supported with Office 2007 format documents and requires PKI certificates.
