TITUS Enhances User Driven Security in Latest Release of Leading Classification Solutions

TITUS data governance solutions bring classification and metadata together to help ensure protection of sensitive information

Ottawa, ON – April 17, 2012 TITUS, the leading provider of enterprise data governance and compliance solutions, today annouced the availability of the latest version of their industry-leading, flagship products – TITUS Message Classification and TITUS Classification for Microsoft Office. Enhanced classification capabilities, integration with leading DLP solutions and user-driven security enhancements are key highlights of this latest release.

The TITUS Classification family of products classify, label and protectively mark emails in Outlook, documents in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as other file types (i.e. PDF, audio files, video files) on the Windows desktop. Users can work in their familiar Microsoft Office environment, classifying and protectively marking emails and documents on the desktop while they work.

Highlights of this release:

  • Classification AutoSuggest™ - Assists users in selecting the appropriate classification for email and documents. Driven by content rules and intelligent learning, the suggestions educate users, ease user adoption and improve classification accuracy.
  • Federated Cross-Organizational Sharing - Using trusted attributes (claims), TITUS Message Classification determines which recipients are authorized to receive email across a federated environment. This allows organizations to securely and confidently share sensitive information with other trusted organizations.
  • DLP Integration - By applying user-driven TITUS metadata to documents and email, TITUS products enhance the ability of DLP systems (such as those offered by McAfee, Symantec and Verdasys) to make intelligent data protection decisions.

“Most companies fail in achieving DLP success because they don’t define the necessary process and policies before their deployment. DLP tools are not ‘automagical’. They can’t find data if they don’t know what to look for,” said John Kindervag, Principal Analyst with Forrester Research Inc., in his recent report, ‘Rethinking DLP’ (January 2012). “Security professionals must train DLP tools by defining policies, but before you can define policies, you have to properly inventory and classify your sensitive information.”

The Importance of Metadata
With TITUS solutions, user classifications are stored with files as persistent metadata. This metadata can be used by the organization to increase the accuracy and effectiveness of DLP, archiving and perimeter security solutions to ensure the proper protection of information as it flows through the organization, the cloud, or both. Embedded metadata provides machine readable classification and uniquely identifies each document and email, enabling work flow and traceability on all of your organization’s important information.

“TITUS’ ability to generate the metadata was critical, said Gurkan Papila, Enterprise Infrastructure & Security Manager with Turkcell, a leading European mobile communications organization. “With that, our DLP solution has the information needed to ensure that data that should not leave the organization does not, and protects us against accidental leakage of our most valuable asset, our information.”
